Blake Shelton Unknowingly Grants Young Fan’s Wish Hours After She Passes Away

October 13, 2014, is a day the Haire family’s lives were forever changed. Cristen and her two daughters were involved in a car accident that took the life of 8-month old Aubrey and left 5-year old, Brooke, paralyzed.

Because Brooke had suffered a c4 spinal cord injury, doctors told her parents, that she would most likely be on a ventilator the rest of her life and need a feeding tube. But, Brooke proved the doctors wrong.

She began talking on her own without the assistance of a special valve or voice box, was no longer on tube feedings and was able to eat a regular diet and had complete feeling and sensation despite her level of injury, her mom shared in a blog post.

Just four days ago (March 12), Brooke participated in a showcase hosted by her dance class where she chose to sing Blake Shelton‘s moving gospel tune “Savior’s Shadow.” Brooked dedicated the song to her little sister Aubrey and earned a standing ovation from the crowd.

Per her request, her parents posted the video to Facebook in hopes that Blake Shelton would see Brooke’s performance. And he did. Not only did Shelton see the video, but he shared it along with a personal message to Brooke.

“Brooke you are an angel!! I’m honored you sang my song.. We are all keeping you in our prayers,” Shelton wrote.

Unfortunately Brooke never had a chance to see that dream come true. The morning after her emotional performance, the little girl underwent a surgery from which she never recovered. On Tuesday afternoon, young Brooke was declared legally brain dead.

“While our hearts are broken, in our minds there was only one choice to make and we have chosen to donate Brooke’s organs. It is our hope that we can spare another family the pain and heartache that we are facing today. Brooke will not only continue to live on in our hearts but will be able to give someone a second chance in life,” her Facebook page reads.

Shelton’s message to Brooke was posted just hours after she had passed away. The act didn’t go unnoticed by Brooke’s family who were moved by the fact that Shelton had seen their little girl sing.

“This would have meant the world to Brooke. On the morning of the surgery, she asked Cristen, ‘Did you remember to send that video to Blake Shelton?'” a Facebook post reads. “Well, Brooke’s video was shared by Blake Shelton’s page this afternoon. And while some may not understand the significance, it means so much knowing that so many people will watch her sing this song that she loved so much.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Cristen and Dustin Haire after their heartbreaking loss.
