Usually, most fans are only familiar with the singles that artists release. Other tracks tend to fly under the radar, since a fan needs to buy an entire album or attend a show to hear them.

But devoted fans make a point to know all of their favorite artists’ songs. When it comes to Hank Williams Jr., his fans get just as excited to hear a non-single track as a big hit such as “A Country Boy Can Survive.”

One non-single track that Hank Jr.’s fans seem to always look forward to hearing is “The Blues Man.” Released in 1980, “The Blues Man” was the fifth track on Hank Jr.’s album Habits Old and New. The fans’ draw to the song and its companion tracks led the album to the fourth spot on the Top Country Albums chart.

Written entirely by Hank Jr., “The Blues Man” tells the story of a singer who has been through some tough times in life. He admits the many mistakes that he has made, but reveals that he has since turned his life around.

The narrator knows he owes a lot to a special woman in his life who showered him with love and helped him through his struggles. As he sings, “I was alone in the hot lights, not too much left in sight. But she changed all that in one night.”

Hank Jr. has performed “The Blues Man” many times before, and it always seems to be a crowd favorite. Such was the case when he sang it during a 2016 concert in Forest, Mississippi.

Concertgoer Scott Cain shared a video he took during the show, saying that “The Blues Man” was “one of the best songs [Hank Jr.] ever wrote.” Based on the way the crowd reacted during and after the performance, we’d say plenty of people agreed with him.

As always, Hank Jr. delivered an energized performance that was destined to impress. It’s no wonder why the crowd started cheering like wild once he wrapped up the song!

Tune in below to watch Hank Jr. do what he does best in his live performance of “The Blues Man.” His talent can’t be denied!
