“Redneck Woman” soared to the number one spot, where it spent a total of five weeks. It also became the first number one hit for a solo female country artist in two years.

The song was co-written by Wilson and Big & Rich’s John Rich. It tells the story of a proud redneck woman who doesn’t need the finer things in life. The narrator knows other people think she’s trashy, but she doesn’t care. As she sings:

“Some people look down on me, but I don’t give a rip. I’ll stand barefooted in my own front yard with a baby on my hip.”

“Redneck Woman” Won A Grammy Award

On top of launching Wilson’s career, “Redneck Woman” led her to a Grammy win. She won a Grammy Award in 2005 for Best Country Female Vocal Performance.

After all these years, “Redneck Woman” remains Wilson’s signature song.
