Gwen Stefani Reveals The ‘Crazy’ Songwriting Process With Blake Shelton

A year ago, both Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani went through very public and painful divorces. Today, they are both happier than ever and in love – with each other!

Each have subsequently released very honest albums. In fact Stefani and Shelton’s albums are titled This Is What The Truth Feels Like and If I’m Honest, respectively.

Both albums document the last year or so of their lives. There are break-up songs, new love songs, and everything in between.

On Shelton’s album, the couple joined forces for “Go Ahead and Break My Heart”, which they wrote together, something Stefani’s never done with a significant other.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, she explains their writing process. At first, they were very skeptical because of their recent breakups.

“We were both having trust issues, as you would if you were us. It was like, ‘I have so many problems. How can I now be getting into another potentially huge problem? What am I doing?'” she said.

Once they began to actually trust each other, lyrics started flowing.

“Blake wrote the song and sent it to me. He was like, ‘Help me finish it.’ I wrote a verse and sent it to him, but he was gone because he doesn’t live in L.A,” she explains. “He didn’t have Wi-Fi, so he wasn’t answering me back! As soon as he came back to town, he brought his guitar over. We were like, ‘We wrote a song together! This is crazy!'”

Now, Stefani is on the road for her This Is What The Truth Feels Like Tour and Shelton has been to quite a few shows. They perform the song together when he can make it. Soon, though, he will be in LA almost full time filming live shows for The Voice.
