Fans are used to hearing two voices on the hit Waylon Jennings song “The Conversation”. He normally starts off the song and fellow country legend Hank Williams Jr. answers Jennings’ request of stories about his late father, Hank Williams.

Their duet, which was released on Jennings’ album Waylon and Company, reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart. The filmed a music video to promote the song, which was a rarity for country music at the time. It became Jennings’ very first music video and Hank Jr.’s second, with “Queen of My Heart” being his first.

The two often performed the song live together at festivals and even at each others concerts, but when Jennings passed away in 2002, instead of replacing his part with another singer, Hank Jr. just sang the song solo.

At this 2016 performance in Austin, Texas, Hank Jr. honored his late friend with an epic solo rendition of “The Conversation”, which included a guitar solo that will make your jaw drop.

The song took a different and enjoyable turn, with Bocephus singing Jennings’ parts; It’s almost as if you feel Jennings’ presence during this tune.

We know that Jennings is smiling down on his friend, enjoying the show just like we are. Watch Hank Jr.’s performance below.
