Randy Travis Opens Up About The Stroke That Almost Took His Life In Emotional Interview

Three years after suffering a nearly-fatal stroke, Randy Travis opens up on the day that changed his life forever. The living legend and wife Mary Travis sat down with The Tennessean to discuss their life after that infamous day all those years ago. 

Even after Travis was revived back to life, doctors told Mary to pull the plug, warning that even if he survived he’d be confined to a wheel chair for the remainder of his life. She refused to give up, and fought to keep her husband alive. 

Fast forward three years and Travis was walking on stage for his ceremonial induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, standing throughout the induction, and even closing the ceremony with “Amazing Grace.” However his road to recovery hasn’t been an easy one. 

“Well…no,” admits Travis when asked if he’s happy. “Damaged.”

The country artist gets frustrated attempting to perform the every day tasks he took for granted in his former life, Mary sharing they sometimes cry in intense moments of frustration over his physical limitations. 

“He gets frustrated with the arm and the leg,” Mary shares. “We go through that sometimes. He’ll cry, I’ll cry. It’s normal, we’re human.”

Garth Brooks, Jamey Johnson, and Chris Young are amongst 30 artists set to pay tribute to Travis at a concert in his honor.
