Relive The Moment That Hank Williams Jr. & Skynyrd Killed ‘Gimme Three Steps’ On Late Night TV

Hank Williams Jr.‘s music is the perfect mix of country, blues, and Southern rock. Like Hank, Lynyrd Skynyrd has always been an expert at blending genres to able to appeal a large audience.

With such similar styles, you’d think that Hank and Skynyrd would be good collaborators, wouldn’t you? Well your thoughts are spot on, because Hank has performed with Skynyrd multiple times before. Not only that, but they’ve even co-headlined a tour.

Shortly before they took off on tour together in 2007, Skynyrd and Hank came together in Miami to perform on The Late Late Show. It was a good time for everyone in the studio audience when the legendary artists took to the stage and started rocking out to Skynyrd’s classic hit “Gimme Three Steps.”

Hank looked like he fit right in with the rest of the band, as he took a step back and jammed out with the guitarists while Skynyrd’s lead singer Johnny Van Zant took center stage. But don’t think that Skynyrd would share the stage with the great Hank Williams Jr. and not have him sing vocals!

When Johnny stepped aside and let Hank take the mic, what happened next can only be described as epic. Hank powered through the second verse and into the chorus with his signature rowdy attitude, prompting a good laugh out of Johnny before he started singing again as well.

Want to relive Skynyrd and Hank’s awesome collaboration? Well you’re in luck, because we’ve included a video of the performance below.
