Country heartthrob, Scotty McCreery, performed George Strait’s beloved classic “I Cross My Heart” for one of his final American Idol performances back in April of 2011. His gospel-like rendition of the country classic helped him advance on further and eventually win the tenth season of American Idol

Scotty serenades the audience by crossing his heart that his “love is unconditional” (swoon) and undoubtedly seduced millions of girls across the nation into casting their votes in his favor. His performance is made complete with a soft violin melody and soulful back-up vocals.

The song made its debut in 1992 when sung by Strait in the American western musical film, Pure Country. “I Cross My Heart” was the first single released off the film’s soundtrack and debuted at No. 58 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart before going on to hit No.1. Since its release the song has sold a whopping 992,000 digital downloads.

The song is for sure an American treasure so it really is no wonder why the young performer chose to cover it almost two decades after its original release.
