Two of the biggest names in country music take the stage for a performance of a song written by none other than Hank Williams Sr. – and released in secret, under his famous alias, “Luke the Drifter”.
Appearing on The Johnny Cash Show, a clean-cut, young Hank Williams Jr. beamed excitedly to be standing next to The Man in Black and smiled even bigger when the two sat down for a duet of a song by his father.
Just 21 years old, Hank Jr. was already a well-trained musician with boundless natural talent, making him an obvious choice for a guest on Johnny Cash‘s hit television variety show.
Singing his father’s timeless song, “Just Waitin'”, Hank Jr. and Cash trade off verses as they move through this back-and-forth style song that talks about each part of life waiting on another – and how human expectations are essentially futile. It’s a bright, upbeat song, with a deep meaning.
