Those who follow Julianne Hough on social media have seen her talking about a transformative journey she’s undergone over the course of the past year. Finally, fans got their first look into what that journey has been like for the professional dancer, country singer, actress, and America’s Got Talent judge.

That look came through Hough’s new interview with Women’s Health Magazine for its special, “Naked Strength” issue. Hough served as the issue’s cover star, and sat down for an interview to speak about the newfound strength she found within herself.

She told the publication that her “massive transformation” started just four months after she married former professional hockey player Brooks Laich in July 2017.

After her wedding, Hough felt a draw to find “her purpose.” That purpose ended up being helping others, and doing so through her most beloved art form…dance.

Within the year, Hough plans to launch a new dance method called Kinrgy. She hopes to build a studio in Los Angeles and hold global events to give people the chance to enjoy “moving in a way that’s nurturing to each individual.”

As she worked on developing her new dance method, Hough found a newfound sense of confidence in her own body and self. Though that confidence hasn’t always been there.

In 2008, Hough was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that causes severe pain during menstruation and intimacy. After receiving her diagnosis, Hough struggled with insecurities, but soon came to embrace her body and her condition. She now serves as an endometriosis spokesperson.

Now that’s she’s more confident in her body than ever before, Hough dared to go bare for her Women’s Health cover and photo spread. After all, it is the “Naked Strength” issue.

Years ago, the idea of doing such a photo shoot may have been terrifying for Hough. But after her transformation, she knew she had the confidence to go all out and show just how strong and beautiful her body is.

I didn’t want to do a demure shoot where I was trying to cover my body,” she says. “I wanted to do something where I was free.”

That sense of freedom can be seen in her Women’s Health cover photo. Hough stripped it all off for the picture, and can be seen striking a pose as she looks like she’s dancing in the water. She shared the picture on Instagram, writing, “& it’s just the beginning…

Hough’s newfound confidence means good things for those who are fans of her country music career. As Hough confessed in her interview, she has been working on writing songs again, and all of them have been about the transformation she’s experienced over the past year.

Hopefully we’ll see new music from Hough in the future, but in the meantime, enjoy one of her best songs in the video below.

Hough’s “Naked Strength” issue of Women’s Health will be available on August 13 if you’d like to learn more about her and her journey.
