American Idol winner and Voice coach, Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to singing live for huge audiences. But there is one song in particular that she never wants to sing in front of her fans…

She’s A Talented Singer

We all know Clarkson is an amazing singer. She wouldn’t have won our votes back in 2002 when she was competing in American Idol – and she definitely wouldn’t have become one of the most popular female artists of our time if she wasn’t.

She Now Coaches Others To Sing Live

Now, 16 years after she won American Idol, Clarkson has made a name for herself in the music world. As a chart-topping singer with two Grammy Awards under her belt – she’s a seasoned vet in the industry. Which is why she was picked to be a Voice coach and even helped teenage Brynn Cartelli win season 14, and Chevel Shepherd win Season 15.

One Song She Doesn’t Want To Sing Live

While Clarkson loves singing for friends and fans, there is one song she has admitted to never wanting to sing live. In 2017, the musical film The Greatest Showman took theaters by storm.

Inspired by the story of P.T. Barnum’s visionary creation of Barnum & Bailey Circus – the film was a magical journey through his life full of song and charm.

One song in particular that got praise all over the world was “Never Enough.” Portraying the 1800s Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind, played by Rebecca Ferguson, every note had to be hit flawlessly while still hypnotizing the audience with unrestrained emotion.

The song had to be sung so perfectly that they had to find a real singer to perform Lind’s vocals while Ferguson lip synced in the movie. Loren Allred, who coincidentally competed on the third season of The Voice and placed 13th, recorded Lind’s singing vocals.

In 2018, the film’s soundtrack was “reimagined” with many modern-day artists taking on the theatrical songs and making them their own. Artists like Zac Brown Band, Pentatonix, and Kelly Clarkson all came together to create a masterpiece of their own. Clarkson covered “Never Enough” and her voice carries the song’s message beautifully and powerfully.

Why Won’t She Sing It Live?

While getting ready for a taping of The Voice, Clarkson asked her phone to play “the new Kelly Clarkson” and her reimagined version of the tune came up.

After joking around a bit, Clarkson finally admitted: “It’s just such a great song that I’d rarely want to sing live…because it’s hard!”

Still, she hinted that maybe with a little more practice she’d be willing to add it to the set list – and she did!

On her Meaning of Life Tour, she performs it as one of her encore songs. Watch her sing it in the video below.
