Tragedy struck country star Luke Bryan and his family back in late 2014 when his brother-in-law, widowed husband to Bryan’s late sister Kelly, passed away from what was speculated to be a heart attack.

As the unfathomable death was so near to CMT’s highly anticipated “Artist Of The Year” event, Bryan immediately canceled his performance in light of the devastating loss and heartbreak for his brother-in-law.

Despite Bryan’s need to cancel, his presence was felt throughout the event when fan favorites Lady Antebellum and Chris Stapleton took on Bryan’s emotional tribute “Drink A Beer” in his honor.

The performance showcased the undying support these artists give one another, in addition to the outpour of love and understanding that fans directed towards the grieving singer. The powerful performance continues to be referenced for its portrayal of unity that is all too uncommon in the sometimes emotionally disconnected entertainment industry.
