Taking on a song as iconic as Glen Campbell‘s “Gentle on My Mind” is no easy feat, but The Band Perry does it with ease. The sibling trio paid a stunning tribute to the country music icon’s signature song, creating a heartbreaking love story in the process.

The video kicks off with actors Alexander Ludwig and Shelley Hennig seated in a white Jeep parked at the foot of the mountain. The woman tells her boyfriend that she’ll be right back after leaving to buy something from the convenience store. The man stares out at the scenic mountains, before making a decision that would impact both of their lives.

Upon her return, the woman finds a note in her boyfriend’s place with “had to go” written across it. Though clearly rocked by the intense emotion of his abandonment, she agrees through tear-filled eyes, saying, “I know,” just as the music begins to play. The remainder of the video features the man on the adventure of a lifetime, all the while keeping his past lover gentle on his mind.

Adjacent to the heart-wrenching love story being told is the sibling trio playing in what appears to be an old hotel lobby. The siblings delivery mesmerizes, magical harmonies featured throughout their banjo-packed rendition of Campbell’s masterpiece.

“What a beautiful lyric,” Kimberly Perry said according to The Tennessean. “Every time we’re singing it in our three-part family harmony it feels like we’re are singing a poem. It’s one of the most beautiful lyrics to ever come out of this format, and it’s truly an honor to honor Glen with this song.”
