Brandon Blackstock’s Son Speaks Out Following His Dad’s Death – “I Lost My Hero”

Family and friends continue to honor Brandon Blackstock following his death on August 7.
Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband and former son-in-law of Reba McEntire, died August 7 at the age of 48. Blackstock was married to Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2020, although their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2022. The couple shared two children: River and Remington.
Brandon was previously married to Melissa Ashworth. The couple shared two children: Savannah and Seth.

Following Brandon’s death, his son and ex-wife shared tributes to him on social media. Seth, 18, shared a series of photos and a special message to his late father.
“I lost my hero yesterday, words can’t describe how proud of you I am on raising me and your 3 other kids. You were a father, a son, a brother, and most importantly my best friend,” Seth wrote on Instagram. “You’ll have to watch me grow up from a Birds Eye view now buts that’s ok with me. There’s no one else on this earth that I would want to be my dad because no one can be half the man you were to me.”
The post continued, “I love you so much and can’t wait to throw a line in the water with you again. Love you dad. Be good or good at it -love your son Seth.”
Melissa Ashworth, who was married to Brandon from 1999 to 2012, shared a recent photo of her ex-husband with their children, son-in-law, and grandchild. She also shared a wedding photo, remembering him as “the best Daddy and Pa.”
“On May 29, 1999 I married the man who would become the father of my children. Brandon was full of charm, witt, and just an absolute gentleman who happened to wear cowboy boots, wrangler jeans, and a cowboy hat. He was by far, hands down, the best Daddy and Pa. He loved hard and he fought hard,” she wrote. “The best thing Brandon has left for his children is they know where he is. I’ve heard it said, ‘Nothing is lost when you know where it is’ and Brandon is with Jesus his Savior. Savannah, Seth, and our grandchildren are the best parts of who Brandon and I are. Thank you all for your prayers and condolences.”

Brandon Blackstock’s Cause Of Death
On Monday, August 11, Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis revealed that Brandon Blackstock passed away of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.
“Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana, on August 7th under hospice care surrounded by his family,” Hollis told PEOPLE. He also confirmed that Blackstock’s cause of death was melanoma and the manner of death was natural causes.
Blackstock’s family announced his passing on August 7th in a statement saying that Brandon had “bravely battled cancer for more than three years.”
