Anne Burrell, the celebrity chef best known as the host of Food Network’s Worst Cooks In America, has died at the age of 55.

Anne Burrell’s family announced her death in a statement released via a rep on Tuesday (June 17).

“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” her family said, according to PEOPLE. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

TMZ reports that authorities responded to a call to Burrell’s Brooklyn, New York, home on Tuesday morning after the chef was found unresponsive.

“Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … EMS personnel received a call of a woman in need of assistance Tuesday morning after Burrell was found unresponsive inside her Brooklyn home,” TMZ reported.

Paramedics declared her deceased after being unable to revive her.

PEOPLE confirmed the report, saying that Burrell was found “unconscious and unresponsive” by officers from the 76th Precinct who responded to the call to her home around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

EMS “responded and pronounced her deceased on scene,” police told the outlet.

A cause of death is unknown and will be determined by an autopsy with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

Burrell is survived by her husband of four years, Stuart Claxton, step-son, Javier, and children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas.

Fans and colleagues of Anne Burrell are taking to social media to mourn the star’s death.

“I’m literally in disbelief right now. I cannot believe that Chef AnneBurrell has died. This is so shocking and heartbreaking. As someone obsessed with Food Network, I always enjoyed her so much. 55 is far too young. Omg. Love to her family and friends,” one fan shared on X, expressing the sentiment of everyone who knew and loved Burrell.

Another wrote, “As a foodie and lover of Worst Cooks in America, Anne Burrell has changed so many lives when it came to the culinary world. I am so heartbroken for her family.”

The Food Network issued a statement, saying, “We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning. Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”

Fellow chefs and television personalities also responded as they grieve the loss of their dear friend.

Anne’s Worst Chefs in America co-host, Robert Irvine, said of Burrell, “Anne wasn’t just a fiery chef. She was a radiant spirit who lit up every room she entered. From the very beginning on Worst Cooks in America, our friendly rivalry was fueled by mutual respect.”

Other celebrity food personalities Aaron Sanchez, Elizabeth Falkner, Carla Hall, Andrew Zimmern, Stephanie Izard, and many more paid tribute.
