Six years after his arrest, files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes have finally been officially released to the public.
Disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was first arrested in 2005 after a parent had reported that he sexually abused their 14-year-old daughter. Federal officials found that he abused up to 36 girls. As part of his plea deal in 2008, Epstein served 13 months for two charges – procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute. For much of those 13 months, Epstein was allowed to leave prison for work.

On July 29, 2019, he was arrested once again, this time for sex trafficking minors in both Florida and New York. Epstein died by suicide 36 days after he was incarcerated on federal sex trafficking charges.
His partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, has long denied any involvement in Epstein’s crimes, but faced numerous allegations of trafficking and procuring clients and victims for Epstein.
She came under FBI investigation and was arrested in 2020 on six charges of federal crimes, including perjury, enticement of minors, and sex trafficking of children.
The case garnered international attention due to high-profile associates of Epstein’s who are thought to be on his client list.
Much speculation has surrounded the so-called “list” that was rumored to be in Maxwell’s “little black book.” A redacted copy of the address book, alleged to belong to Maxwell, was released by Gawker in 2015. It reportedly included names of famous musicians, world leaders, and well-known businessmen.
Ahead of Thursday’s file release, journalist Julie K. Brown, who notoriously broke the Jeffrey Epstein story, posted on X that the list is non-existent.
“There is no Jeffrey Epstein client list. Period. It’s a figment of the internet’s imagination — and a means to just slander people,” she wrote.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the release of some of the Epstein files on Thursday (February 27).
On Wednesday (February 26), Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared on Jesse Watters Primetime and revealed some news about the long-awaited Epstein documents. She mentioned that the files would be released the next day, including flight logs and names.
“What you’re going to see, hopefully tomorrow, is a lot of flight logs, a lot of names, a lot of information,” Bondi said when asked about the type of information that will be released Thursday. “But, it’s pretty sick what that man did, along with his co-defendant.”
Late Thursday, it was announced that Part 1 of the files had been released. The Department of Justice made them available to the public Thursday evening. The files contained the information Bondi had promised. But much of it was information the public was already aware of.
What was included in the newly-released Epstein files?
According to the DOJ, “The first phase of declassified files largely contains documents that have been previously leaked but never released in a formal capacity by the U.S. Government.”
Nearly 120 pages of the 224 page file were flight logs that had been entered into evidence in the lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell. The files also included an extensive list of physical evidence that had been obtained against Maxwell and Epstein.
A heavily redacted copy of Maxwell’s “Contact Book” was also released. The 95-page document was not a client list but a book that contained contact information for Epstein’s high-profile associates. These names do not indicate any level of wrongdoing.
