Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Nicknamed RFK Jr.) Has Been Confirmed As The Newest Secretary Of Health And Human Services

After a lengthy process, RFK Jr. has finally been confirmed on Thursday, February 13 as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

To become the Secretary of Health and Human Services, one must first receive a nomination from the President of the United States. Then, they have to go through a Senate Confirmation Process. This includes appearing before various committees for a confirmation hearing, answering questions from Senators regarding qualifications and policy positions, and finally, be voted on by the full Senate.

On Tuesday (Feb. 4), the Senate Finance Committee voted 14-13 to advance Kennedy closer to confirmation. The key swing vote was Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican from Louisiana, who previously disagreed with Kennedy’s stance on vaccines.

President Trump announced RFK Jr. as his pick for this position in November 2024 after he won the presidential election.

In a post on X, President Trump wrote:

“The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country. Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

The Senate voted on RFK’s confirmation on Thursday (Feb. 13) with an outcome of 52-48. CNN reports that the vote was “mostly along party lines,” however Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell opposed the nomination, along with the Democratic senators.

With this vote, McConnell has now voted against three of the president’s Cabinet nominees: Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary and Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, and Kennedy as Secretary Of Health And Human Services.

With this vote, Robert F. Kennedy is officially confirmed as the Secretary of Health and Human Services for the United States of America. Watch a clip of RFK during his confirmation hearing below.
