Brooks & Dunn Earn Another CMA Award Nomination, Adding To Their Untouchable Record

Brooks & Dunn may take home another CMA Award in 2023. The iconic duo just scored a nomination for Vocal Duo of the Year.

Their fellow nominees include Brothers Osborne, Dan + Shay, Maddie & Tae, and The War and Treaty.

Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are no strangers to the Vocal Duo of the Year category. They’ve won the trophy a record-breaking number of times…14 to be exact.

Brooks & Dunn first took home the Vocal Duo of the Year trophy in 1992. They won every year from then through 2006, with the exception of 2000. That year the award went to Montgomery Gentry.

In Addition To Having The Highest Number Of Vocal Duo Wins, Brooks & Dunn Also Have The Highest Number Of Nominations

Also, Brooks & Dunn have been nominated for the CMA Award for Vocal Duo of the Year more than any other pair. They have a whopping 24 nominations in the category! Their nod in 2023 extended their already untouchable record.

No other duo has ever come close to Brooks & Dunn’s record. The Bellamy Brothers rank next, with a total of 15 nominations to their name. Montgomery Gentry follows with 13 nominations in the category.

Some History Behind The CMA Award For Vocal Duo Of The Year

The CMA’s Vocal Duo of the Year award was first introduced in 1970 as a spin-off of the Vocal Group of the Year award. Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner received the inaugural trophy.

The Judds became the first female duo to win the award in 1988. They went on to win three more times. They remain the only female duo to win in the category.

Brothers Osborne became the first sibling duo to ever win the award. They’ve done so five times, and they’re the reigning winners from 2022.

In 2019, Brothers Osborne joined Brooks & Dunn at the CMA Awards to perform an updated rendition of “Brand New Man.” Revisit that performance below.
