Caleb Flynn Guilty Verdict Prompts Raw Statement From Wife’s Family

A Miami County, Ohio, jury found Caleb Flynn guilty on all nine counts Tuesday, September 29, after just a little more than two hours of deliberation.
The former pastor and American Idol contestant was convicted of aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and three counts of tampering with evidence. The jury also found firearm specifications attached to seven of the charges.
Caleb Flynn Maintained His Innocence
Ashley Flynn, a 37-year-old mother, teacher and volleyball coach, was fatally shot inside her Tipp City, Ohio, home on February 16, 2026. Her husband, Caleb Flynn, called 911 after reportedly discovering Ashley’s body. At the time, he told authorities that he believed an intruder had entered the home.
Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins later confirmed that Ashley died from a gunshot wound. Although the killing was violent, Adkins said investigators believed it was “a targeted incident” and emphasized that there was no indication the broader community was in danger.
Three days after Ashley’s death, on February 19, authorities arrested Caleb Flynn and charged him in connection with her murder.
Flynn had maintained that an intruder broke into the family’s Tipp City home in February and fatally shot Ashley, 37, while she was sleeping.
Prosecutors argued that the crime scene had been staged and presented evidence involving Flynn’s relationship with another woman, digital activity and messages exchanged before and after Ashley’s death. The defense disputed the prosecution’s case, arguing that investigators had failed to establish a concrete physical connection between Flynn and the shooting.
Flynn’s defense attorney said they were disappointed with the verdict and indicated an appeal is expected. Flynn’s sentencing is scheduled for October 5.
Ashley’s Family Reacts To The Guilty Verdict
After the verdict was announced, Miami County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Watkins read a statement from Ashley’s family that shifted the focus away from Flynn and back toward the woman they lost.
“Today’s verdict brings justice and accountability for Ashley’s death,” the family said, while emphasizing that “no verdict can bring Ashley back” or erase the pain their family has experienced.
The statement also described Ashley as a devoted mother whose faith was central to her life. Her family said she loved her two daughters, prayed over them and taught them about faith, kindness, joy and grace. They made clear that they do not want Ashley’s story to be defined solely by the circumstances surrounding her death.
“We refuse to let the evil that ended Ashley’s life have the final word in her story,” the family said.
They also expressed gratitude to the jury, prosecutors, police, FBI, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and others involved in the case, while asking for privacy as they continue caring for Ashley’s daughters and grieving their loss.
For Ashley’s family, the verdict represented more than the conclusion of a highly publicized trial. It was another step in ensuring that the focus remains on Ashley, not simply how she died, but how she lived and the family she left behind.
