Craig Morgan Reveals Toby Keith’s Family Personally Blessed “American Soldier” Cover
on • Updated

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary and the upcoming Veteran’s Day holiday, Craig Morgan has released a meaningful 11-song album titled My Country.

“‘My Country’ is out now! 11 songs celebrating the country I love, the music that raised me, and the men and women who serve it. Proud to finally share this one with you,” Morgan wrote on Facebook on release day, November 6th!
His post included photos of his time serving in the military from the time he joined as a young buck in 1982. He served in the United States Army until 1997, where nine of those years were 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions, followed by six years in the Army Reserve.
Morgan deployed during the United States’ invasion of Grenada in 1983 and in 2023, Morgan re-enlisted in the Army Reserve, being sworn in on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
Earlier this year, Sec. Of War Pete Hegseth praised Morgan’s service during a promotion ceremony.
The track listing for My Country is as follows:
- I’m Country Music

- That Ain’t Gonna Be Me

Craig Morgan Included Toby Keith’s “American Soldier” On The Album
As you might have seen in the track listing above, Craig released a cover of Toby Keith’s iconic song “American Soldier,” which he released in 2003.
In a statement, Morgan revealed he had received the blessing of Toby Keith’s family, including his widow Tricia, and his children Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen.

“I’m privileged too to have the blessing of my friend Toby Keith’s family to record and release my own version of his iconic song, ‘American Soldier,’ on the project too. I can’t wait for everyone to listen!” Morgan said in a statement.
Craig and Toby had a special relationship due to their shared love of their country and the military. In a new interview with Taste of Country, Morgan revealed they had plans to tour before the country legend passed away, and even disclosed their last conversation, which was about Morgan’s re-enlistment.
He said, “I remember sitting on his bus after a show, and he wasn’t doing well at all, and talking about our service to our nation. I had just then contemplated going back into the military. I remember he poked fun. He’s like, ‘You know, are you going to be able to hang with these guys?'”
We think Toby would have loved Craig’s cover. Listen to it below.
