One week after going into cardiac arrest during a Monday night football game, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is back in his home state of New York.

On Monday (January 2), Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after making a tackle during the Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals game. The 24-year-old received CPR for 10 minutes before being transferred to a Cincinnati hospital in critical condition where he has been treated since.

It was reported Friday that Hamlin was breathing on his own and was making significant strides in his recovery. Monday (January 9), his doctors reported that he was healthy enough to be transferred to a medical center closer to his home in Buffalo and continue his recovery there.

Dr. William Knight IV and Dr. Timothy Pritts who have been treating Damar since his collapse, told media that Hamlin flew back to Buffalo Monday after spending nearly a week at the hospital. They also reported that they worked with a medical team in Buffalo before the transfer to ensure that the athlete was ready to be moved.

According to a statement from Kaleida Healthcare Network, Hamlin has been admitted to the Buffalo General Medical Center and is in stable condition.

“Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been transferred to Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health facility in Buffalo, N.Y., following his treatment at UC Health’s University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Ohio,” the statement reads. “He is currently listed in stable condition and continues to make significant progress in his recovery. The goal of the transfer to Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute is to get him closer to home for further evaluation, recovery and eventually discharge and rehabilitation.”

Damar Hamlin posted a tweet Monday regarding the transfer and the love he’s received since the incident.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor also addressed Hamlin’s release from the hospital, saying, “God is great. He works miracles. This is certainly a miracle. There’s no question.” See Taylor’s speak to press in the video below.
