on May 20, 2024
Firefighters from Louisville, Kentucky heroically rescued a driver from a semi-truck that was suspended over the Ohio River
On March 1, a three-vehicle collision occurred on the Clark Memorial Bridge in Louisville, Kentucky, causing a Sysco semi-truck to crash through the guardrail and plunge downwards toward the river below. The trailer of the truck became ensnared in the guardrail, preventing the truck from falling completely, but left the cab hanging precariously with the driver still inside.
First responders from the Louisville Fire Department worked swiftly to retrieve 26-year-old Sydney Thomas from the driver’s seat. Video footage captured firefighters lowering one of their own down to the truck’s cab using ropes and specialty equipment, and successfully rescuing Thomas from the life-threatening situation. Officials confirmed that she made it out unharmed.
The rescue operation was completed in approximately 45 minutes. Watch the video from the harrowing rescue below!

New dashcam footage from the crash has been released
This week, footage from the dashcam on board the semi-truck was made public, showing the terrifying moments surrounding the crash. Thomas can be seen struggling to gain control of the truck before plunging over the edge of the bridge.
It was also revealed that 33-year-old Trevor W. Branham was found to be at fault for the crash. He was charged with 4 counts of wanton endangerment, and 1 count of operating on a suspended license after footage showed him speeding and swerving around a stalled car before striking the semi-truck. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is reportedly now in a wheelchair as a result of the crash.
