Dolly Parton was known as the “Queen of Country” by millions, but it was her family who truly got to see firsthand who she was behind the fame.
The singer died on August 25 at the age of 80 after a private battle with cancer. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, shared the news in a video on behalf of the rest of the Parton family.
“Dolly opened doors not just for me, but for her entire family to reach the potential we didn’t even know was possible,” he said in a portion of the video. “Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians, and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent. By her example, we believed that anything was possible.
Dolly changed so many people’s lives through her music, career, and philanthropic work. After her death, tributes poured in from fans, fellow entertainers, and world leaders.
Just a few people who took time to honor Dolly include Kevin Costner, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, and the Royal Family.
However, it’s been the tributes from Dolly’s family that have been the most emotional. As the days have passed since her death, more of her family members have broken their silence to share their memories of her.
Dolly was famously devoted to her family. She had 11 siblings, more than a dozen nieces and nephews, and even great-nieces and great-nephews.
She also made sure to help any of them who needed it. In 2003, Dolly told Rolling Stone that she and her husband, Carl Dean, would pay for family members’ college tuition and buy them a new car for anyone who graduated.
Dolly spread so much love while she was here, and now the people closest to her are making sure her kindness is never forgotten. Keep scrolling to see some of her family members speak out about her passing.
