Miley Cyrus Expresses Heartbreak In First Post Since Dolly Parton’s Death

Miley Cyrus has broken her silence following Dolly Parton‘s death on August 25, 2026.
Dolly Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced his aunt’s passing on social media. Her team later revealed that she passed away after a short battle with cancer.
Tributes began flooding in from countless country singers, entertainers, and fans alike, including Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, and Kevin Costner.
Due to her close relationship to Dolly, fans were waiting for Miley Cyrus’ reaction to her passing.
When Miley was born, her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus Purcell, appointed Dolly Parton as her godmother. She lovingly called Dolly her “fairy godmother,” and “Aunt Dolly.”
On Wednesday (August 26), Miley shared a black and white photo of Dolly alongside her tribute.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share” she wrote. “Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
The “Malibu” singer shared that she knows that her Aunt Dolly would want her to feel her grief and channel it into a song.
She continued, “I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”
As many fans know, Parton had an affinity for butterflies, so this final conversation makes so much sense and was so very fitting.
Miley ended her heartfelt tribute by saying, “I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
Miley Cyrus And Dolly Parton Shared A Special Bond
Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton’s bond was obvious on stage, but their greatest connection was in private.
Over the years, they collaborated countless times, most notably when Dolly guest starred on Miley’s hit Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, introducing the icon to a new generation of music fans.
In 2022, they co-hosted a New Year’s Eve special together, where they performed many of each other’s hits, and even rang in the new year singing “I Will Always Love You.”
Dolly also included Miley on the last song she released in her lifetime, a re-recorded version of “Light Of A Clear Blue Morning” along with Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, and Queen Latifah.
While they had so many memorable moments together, one of our favorite ones is their collaboration on the song “Rainbowland,” which Miley included on her 2017 album Younger Now.
The song begins with audio of Dolly Parton sending her goddaughter a sweet voice message, where she explains that she still uses a flip phones, CDs, and even cassette tapes.
