The world is grieving the unexpected passing of country legend Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton died Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80.

News of Dolly Parton’s death was announced on her social media pages in a video message from her nephew, Bryan Seaver. Seaver, the son of Dolly’s sister Cassie, spoke on behalf of the family, saying:

“I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean,” Seaver, head of his aunt’s security team, said. He added that the video announcement was something Dolly asked him to do years ago.

“I have imagined the heaviness of this moment, but haven’t truly felt it until now. It is an honor. An honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.”

Bryan shared that Dolly is “in the arms of Jesus” and was “surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her, and longed for her to meet them in the heavens.”

A press release announced Dolly’s funeral arrangements.

A press release issued by Dolly’s team further confirmed her death, stating that she died in Nashville. The statement honored Dolly as “an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.”
