Donald Trump Sworn In As 47th President Of The United States In Historic Ceremony
on Jan 20, 2025
It is official. Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
The swearing-in ceremony for Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump was scheduled to take place midday Monday (January 20) in front of the U.S. Capitol building. But, in a historic move, the Trump administration announced Sunday that the ceremony would be moved indoors due to frigid temperatures in Washington, D.C.
The venue change makes Trump the second president in history to be sworn-in indoors. Ronald Reagan took the oath of office inside the Capitol Rotunda in 1985.
“The weather forecast for Washington, D.C., with the windchill factor, could take temperatures into severe record lows. There is an Arctic blast sweeping the country. I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured in any way,” Trump said in a statement. “Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather.”
The presidential parade was also moved from the streets of D.C. to the Capitol One Arena.
Who attended Donald Trump’s inauguration?
The crowd was dramatically smaller due to the ceremony moving indoors. But numerous lawmakers, officials, tech CEOs, and more were in attendance to witness history.
Former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden were in the audience. Tech leaders Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Elon Musk (Tesla), Tim Cook (Apple), Shou Chew (TikTok), and Sundar Pichai (Google) were also in attendance.
Family members of JD Vance and Donald Trump were on stage behind them and came forward to surround them as they took the oath of office.
Who performed at the inauguration?
Country star Carrie Underwood delivered a stunning rendition of “America the Beautiful.” Underwood was scheduled to perform after Vice President JD Vance’s swearing-in and just before President Donald Trump’s, but a schedule change moved her performance to the end of the ceremony. Underwood’s appearance came after a week of intense backlash over her decision to participate in the inauguration festivities.

That criticism turned to praise when Underwood turned an awkward moment into a memorable performance. Carrie stood on stage waiting for an accompaniment track to play. When it became evident that there were technical issued, Underwood chose to sing “America The Beautiful” a cappella and asked the crowd to join her. The result was a powerful, stripped-down version of the patriotic classic.
