Drunk Man Arrested After Driving Onto Lake He Thought Was Frozen

Barron County Sheriff's Department

According to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department in northern Wisconsin, a drunk man was arrested after driving his truck and fishing shanty trailer into a lake thinking that it was frozen.

The department said he was trying to set up his fishing shanty on the extremely thin layer of ice, thinking it was much thicker.

Unfortunately for the man, the lake was in no position to be holding up his truck and trailer and it submerged into the cold, murky green lake.

“We want everyone to know that the driver was ok and unhurt. Alcohol was a contributing factor to this case and we take these very serious because these type of offenses are preventable,” Barron County Sheriff’s Department wrote on Facebook.

Cops arrested him on site for drunk driving and the department posted a public statement and a picture of the incident as a reminder for those who are on the road this weekend for Halloween.

Their main message was to remind people to make sure they have a designated driver.

The department wrote, “Look, OK yeah it got below freezing the last couple nights, and OK yeah the frost has made an appearance, and sure we love ice fishing as much as everyone else… BUT, and this is important….THE.ICE.IS.NOT.READY.YET. Please keep the shacks at home for the time being, let’s enjoy fall while it’s still here yeah? We will have plenty of time to freeze our butts off in the dead of winter.”
