A woman at a Christmas party in 2018 got her arm ripped off by an angry grizzly bear and the animal ate it in front of her after she got too drunk and bragged that she could reach her arm through the cage and feed it with her bare hands.
Local police said the woman reached through the cage during the party to show all her friends that the bear was friendly with her and that’s when the caged animal took the opportunity to get an extra holiday snake.
The bear was kept in a very small cage as entertainment for visitors near a guest house in the city of Achinsk, which is in the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia, where it could not hibernate in the winter, nor roam free.
The 53-year-old woman went immediately to intensive care and was said to be in “grave” condition after the attack. Medics said she suffered massive blood loss and had to go into emergency surgery immediately on the stump of her arm.
The woman was an employee of a small hotel in the city and locals said she was way too drunk to be messing around with the bear and trying to feed it with her bare hands.
A local said, “It ended in tragedy for the woman as the bear took its revenge on being held captive – and ate her arm for its festive meal.”
Police said the owner of the guest house was ordered multiple times to release the bear, along with another bear that was caged on the property.
A regular guest said, “We have often fed those bears ourselves. We used a stick provided there to push the treat towards the cage. Sometimes the bears open their mouths just like hippos and you can throw an apple right into it. They are very smart, stretching their paws waiting for treats.”
Region hunting inspector Vasily Vershkov said that wild bears are usually shot and killed after they attack a human but this was a caged bear so they kept it in the cage throughout the winter and then transported it to a woodland location and released it back into the wild.
The video below shows the bear being harassed by a Russian man with a snow shovel and then drinking from a soda bottle through the bars of its cage before it was released.
