The Blind, The New Faith-Based Movie About Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson, Becomes #1 Highest-Grossing Film For Fathom Events

The early life of Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson is told through the new movie, The Blind.

Now 77-year-old Phil was not always a man of faith like he is today. He had his struggles and battled his fair share of demons in his younger years.

The Blind doesn’t shy away from sharing those difficult times in Phil’s life…and in his marriage to Miss Kay. The couple married in 1966, and share four sons, Alan, Willie, Jase, and Jep.

Kay stuck with Phil during those tough times, even when everyone else encouraged her to leave:

“When I stuck with him, then everybody was mad at me because they said ‘leave him’ and I said ‘No, my grandmother taught me to stay,'” Kay said. “That was what you were supposed to do. You would just pray and God will fix it eventually.”

Through The Blind, viewers learn how Phil eventually found his redemption through his Christian faith, and how that faith changed his life and family forever.

The Blind Experiences Overwhelming Success Upon Release

The Blind hit theaters on September 28, 2023. According to the Shreveport Times, the film finished in fourth place among movies opening that weekend, and fifth place overall. It grossed $4.4 million that weekend…an impressive feat considering the fact that it had a limited theatrical run.

Originally scheduled for eight days, The Blind‘s run in theaters was extended twice. The movie has now grossed $15.7 million at the North American box office, according to Deadline.

The film has inspired people to get baptized, which thrills Phil:

“If anything brings me to tears, this is it. I’ve baptized a lot of people in the name of Jesus,” he said in a post on social media. “But in 50 years, the one thing I’ve never seen is young people getting baptized right after seeing a movie.”

How A Movie About Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson Made History

Deadline reports that The Blind made history and set a new record for the entertainment company Fathom Events. According to the publication, “The Blind is now the most successful release in the history of Fathom Events” after generating its gross of $15.7 million.

The previous record holder for Fathom Events was Season Three, episodes one and two of The Chosen, which grossed $14.6 million.

Ray Nutt, the CEO of Fathom Events, said the following about the success of The Blind:

From the beginning, we knew how special this film was, and we were eager to support it in the best way possible. Giving the film a longer theatrical run was a great decision for Fathom because of how important it was to bring this message to the fans – it resonated with so many people, which is why The Blind has had such staying power.”
