The driver was taken to the hospital immediately and remained there overnight after suffering from burns, scrapes, and bruises sustained in the crash. Luckily, as his team revealed on Twitter, he suffered no further injuries or broken bones.
Grosjean credits the “halo” safety device with saving his life. It’s a type of crash protection system used in open-wheel racing that consists of a titanium bar curved around the driver’s head and somewhat resembles a roll-cage.

The halo device was introduced into Formula 1 in 2018 and now has become the strongest part of the car.
“I wasn’t [in support of] the halo several years ago, but I think it’s the greatest thing we brought to Formula 1,” Grosjean said according to UPI.com. “Without it, I wouldn’t be able to speak to you. Thanks to all the medical staff at the circuit, at the hospital, and hopefully I can soon write you some messages soon and tell you how it’s going.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Grosjean as he makes his recovery.
