Since then, River has been part of their lives daily, even though he isn’t physically here with them. In fact, he named his upcoming book after his son. Smith also recently announced his farewell tour, as he will be stepping away from country music to pursue a ministry.

His farewell tour is titled Like A River Tour, kicked off on April 13, and will wrap up on August 26th.

On Tuesday (May 16), Smith took to Instagram to remember his son on what would have been his seventh birthday.

“Today is Riv’s b-day. Amber and I don’t count the years. We’ll always know him as being three. That was the last birthday we shared with him,” he wrote. “You know—losing him just about killed me. On that grief journey, I left NO stone unturned to heal myself, but nothing helped until…everything changed. These last four years have been the wildest ride of my life, and yet I’ve mostly kept it to myself until now.”

Smith revealed that he wrote down all of his feelings in a book titled Like A River, which is available for pre-order now. He is currently recording the audiobook and shared a snippet of it in the post. Just hearing his voice quiver with emotion brought tears to our eyes.
