Hayden Panettiere Dies At 36
Actress and singer Hayden Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36. Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement to ABC News:
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” the statement read. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
Best known for her roles in Nashville, Remember the Titans, Bring It On, and Raising Helen, Hayden began her acting career as a child and went on to build a successful career in both television and film.
Over the years, Hayden also spoke openly about the personal struggles that deeply affected her life. She described experiencing a difficult cycle of depression and anxiety while balancing the pressures of Hollywood and demanding filming schedules.

Hayden Details Her Broken Relationship With Her Mother
On May 19, 2026, the actress released a memoir titled This Is Me: A Reckoning, which detailed her life as a child actress and the troubles of growing up in Hollywood.
Hayden’s mother, Lesley Vogel, helped launch her daughter’s career in entertainment, first introducing her to modeling as a baby. She later transitioned into commercials, with Hayden reportedly booking around 50 commercials by the time she was 5 years old.
From there, Hayden began auditioning for television and film roles, eventually landing major parts that propelled her to fame at a remarkably young age.
Looking back on her childhood and relationship with her mother during an appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Hayden described a dynamic that became heavily focused on her career.
She said, “Everything was business. I became the confidant and the assistant and the therapist and the shoulder to cry on and everything but her child.”
In her book, Hayden wrote that even though they were estranged, she would always leave the door open for reconciliation.
Lesley Vogel Fires Back At Critics Following Hayden’s Death
During an interview with Good Morning America that aired Monday (August 24), Lesley addressed the criticism she has faced over the way she is grieving her daughter’s death.
“I would say to the haters out there, you don’t have a right to tell me how I mourn the loss of my second child. That’s my domain,” she said.
Lesley shared that she felt “numb” when she first heard about Hayden’s death.
“I just couldn’t feel anything. I still am not grasping this is real. It doesn’t feel real. My mind tells me it’s not all the time. It’s gonna be a process,” Lesley said.
