Home Free Releases Their 90s Country Mixtape Vol. 1

After teasing it for months, acclaimed a cappella group Home Free announced in August that their next project, 90s Country Mixtape Vol. 1, was on the way. Composed of hits from one of country music’s most iconic genres, the album reflects the musical childhood of the vocal group’s members.

With the announcement, they wrote:

“We grew up singing these songs, loving these artists, and probably wearing a little too much denim while we were at it. Now we’re putting together our own Home Free tribute to one of our favorite eras in country music, and yes, we’re still having a lot of fun figuring out exactly which songs make the final cut.”

The 90s Country Mixtape Vol. 1 was released to all platforms on Friday, October 16th. The group shared that putting their own spin on songs like “Achy Breaky Heart” and “I’m In A Hurry (And Don’t Know Why)” was “so much fun.”

Hear Home Free’s Rendition Of Brooks & Dunn’s “My Maria”

Included in the latest collection from Home Free is their own rendition of the country classic “My Maria.”

“My Maria” was first released by B. W. Stevenson in 1973. The song was a commercial hit, peaking at No. 9 on the US pop chart.

However, Brooks & Dunn‘s version took the song to new heights. Released in 1996, the duo’s rendition of “My Maria” reached No. 1 on the US country chart. Additionally, it was named the No. 1 country song of 1996 according to Billboard, and it won Brooks & Dunn their second Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Vocal Group or Duo.

Home Free’s version, along with the music video, is officially out now. The group dressed for the occasion, with each member donning brightly colored, 90s-style pearl-snap shirts for the “My Maria” video. Watch it below!
