Howie Mandel Shares Update On Simon Cowell Post Surgery

Howie Mandel is sharing a positive update on his America’s Got Talent co-star Simon Cowell following his recent back surgery.

Cowell was expected to miss several weeks of the NBC talent competition as he prepared to undergo routine back surgery, according to USA Today, who confirmed the report.

The English native is currently in his 11th season as a judge on America’s Got Talent. He joined the judging panel in Season 11 in 2016, taking over for Howard Stern. Although he briefly stepped away from the show during Season 15, Cowell eventually returned and has remained a fixture on the panel ever since.

Cowell also served as an executive producer on AGT and has played a major role in shaping the hit show.

This was not the first time Cowell has had to undergo surgery. In August 2020, he broke his back in multiple places after falling from an electric bike while testing it at his Malibu, California, home. He underwent a six-hour surgery, which included having a metal rod and screws placed in his back.

He later took to social media to poke fun at the ordeal:

Speaking with E! News last week, Mandel revealed that Cowell’s surgery was successful and that he was doing okay.

“As I talk to you, he is just hours out of surgery,” Mandel said. “I heard that it was a success, everything’s okay.”

Mandel also said he hopes Cowell makes a speedy recovery and returns to America’s Got Talent before the Season 21 finale. In the meantime, guest judges including Kenan Thompson and Heidi Klum have stepped in for Cowell during his absence.
