While he does seem to have country roots, Peay is actually a worship leader, and auditioned with the Zach Williams’ song “To The Table.”

His audition for the judges was spliced with footage of him performing the song at has church, letting us know that he really does sing music like this every day.

Peay effortlessly moved through the worship song, giving the judges and all of us watching from home chills! After he finished the song, Perry changed her assessment of him, and dubbed him the “Christian Chris Stapleton!” While he doesn’t sound very similar to Stapleton, he does have a slightly similar grit to his voice and look.

Immediately after he sang his final note, all three judges jumped to their feet to give Peay a standing ovation. Bryan called the audition “bad bass” and Richie predicted Peay will be in the Top 10. The judges excitedly and unanimously voted Peay through to the next round of competition: Hollywood Week.
