Kacey Musgraves Brings Crowd to Tears With Dolly Parton Tribute

When Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, Kacey Musgraves was one of the countless singers to emotionally react online.
When the news first broke, Musgraves commented a few times on someone else’s post, writing, “This really hurts,” “The world feels a lot less sparkly all of a sudden,” and “So glad she’s with her Carl Dean. No one talk to me today.”
Later in the day, Musgraves posted a selfie she took of herself and Dolly from many years ago alongside a heart emoji.
Kacey Musgraves’ First Show Since Dolly’s Passing Was On August 28
Kacey Musgraves is currently on her Middle of Nowhere Tour, and after a few days off, she started shows back up on Friday (August 28), just three days after Parton passed away.
After singing her many hit songs, Musgraves slowed things down to pay tribute to her idol. She spoke about Dolly’s heart, and how most of the tributes and articles she has seen online are about Dolly’s humanitarian efforts. even when it “wasn’t easy, even when it didn’t benefit her career.”
As she spoke and sang, photos of Dolly’s career adorned the screen above the stage.
She continued, “Damn, we can all learn from something like that, you know? It feels weird to grieve a celebrity, right? But she’s woven into the fabric of who we’ve always been, and so it feels extra sad but let’s all sing this together for her memory.”
Towards the end of the song, Kacey stopped singing, but the crowd continued for her. Just watching the video, we were teary-eyed, so we can’t even imagine how it was to watch it live. See some comments from people who were un the audience below.

Musgraves also performed the legend’s hit song “Here You Come Again,” which won Parton her first-ever Grammy Award in 1979. Her two-song tribute has been lauded online as one of the best fans have seen.
Musgraves has performed “Here You Come Again” a few times before, most notably at the 50th CMA Awards when Parton was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Additionally, she teamed up with pop star Katy Perry during an episode of CMT Crossroads in 2014.
The duo later performed at the MusiCares Person of the Year concert in 2019, where Dolly was the honoree.
