Katelyn Brown made her CMT Music Awards debut alongside her husband Kane on April 2nd. The couple took the stage to perform their hit single, “Thank God.”

Kane Brown, who had double-duty as host and performer during the event, told CMT that the duet with his wife came about after a two-year search for the perfect duet.

“I remember getting this song and I was heading home. I got home, I remember running upstairs, Katelyn’s doing her makeup in the mirror. I’m like, ‘Babe, listen to this song,'” Kane recalled.

Katelyn Brown immediately fell in love with the song, even though it wasn’t originally written to be a duet.

“When he brought ‘Thank God’ home it was kind of undeniable,” Katelyn said after sharing that she had turned down several previous pitches of songs that she couldn’t picture herself singing. “I felt like it was made for us.”

After the couple recorded the song, Kane knew it was going to be a hit. He told Katelyn to be prepared to sing it at award shows, and he was right.

In addition, their video for “Thank God” is a finalist for the night’s biggest award…Video of the Year. The genre’s only fan-voted awards show will present the trophy at the end of tonight’s live event.

As Kane and Katelyn took the stage Sunday night, their love for each other was undeniable. And Kane was clearly proud of his wife’s performance. While Katelyn has joined Kane on stage during concerts in recent months to perform the song, this was her first awards show performance.

Kane Brown met Katelyn Jae in 2016 while both were working in the music industry and Kane’s career was just getting off the ground. They wed two years later and share two daughters, Kingsley (born in 2019) and Kodi (born in 2021).
