THE VOICE: Kelly Clarkson Knew She Didn’t Stand A Chance Against Riley Green After This Singer’s Eddie Rabbitt Cover

The Voice kicked off its 30th season on September 21, with coaches Kelly Clarkson, Riley Green, Queen Latifah, and Adam Levine leading the charge.
As the coaches’ teams grew throughout the blind auditions, they quickly caught on to certain patterns. For example, everyone recognized how Green almost always convinced country artists to join his team if he turned his chair for them.
Because of that, Clarkson knew she didn’t stand much of a chance against Green following Everett Bounds’ performance. The 23-year-old singer from Hesperia, California, entertained the coaches by roaring through Eddie Rabbitt‘s classic hit, “Drivin’ My Life Away.”
Bounds’ energetic audition caught Green’s attention, and he flipped his chair midway through the song. If Green was gearing up to battle the other coaches, he didn’t have to… because no one else turned around.
That means that Bounds joined Green’s team by default!
Kelly Clarkson Jokes About Not Wanting To Compete Against Riley Green On The Voice
The other coaches made it clear they enjoyed Everett Bounds’ performance, with Queen Latifah calling it “wonderful.”
But Adam Levine summed up why he (and likely the other coaches) didn’t turn around, quipping, “It seems like the one guy we knew you were gonna go with no matter what turned around.”
Kelly Clarkson made a similar comment, joking that she didn’t turn her chair because she had zero desire to fight against Green.
“It’s hard to beat him with country. And I have fought this entire time, and lost every single time. And I’m feeling good about myself, I’m in a good place right now, emotionally…”

Green was thrilled that he didn’t have to contend with the other coaches. He welcomed Bounds onto his team with open arms, saying:
“You sounded great, great song choice, it was a lot of fun. I know you can do a million different things…”
In a behind-the-scenes chat after the audition, Green mentioned how Bounds has “a certain amount of energy” in his voice, unlike anyone else on his team. That sealed the deal for him as he was contemplating whether to turn his chair.
