Talent Manager Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband, Died Following A Private Battle With Cancer
Kelly Clarkson is supporting her two young children as they mourn the loss of their father, Brandon Blackstock.
Brandon worked as a talent manager for many years. He helped manage the careers of several notable artists, including Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, and Kelly.
Brandon followed in the footsteps of his father, Narvel Blackstock, who also worked as a talent manager. Narvel was Reba McEntire‘s manager for decades, and they were married from 1989 to 2015. Brandon was 12 years old when his dad and Reba said “I do.”

Kelly and Brandon married in 2013. They welcomed their first child, daughter River Rose, in 2014. Their second child, son Remington “Remy” Alexander, was born in 2016. Brandon also had two older children, Savannah and Seth, from his previous marriage.
Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon in 2020. The divorce was finalized in 2022, but their legal back-and-forth continued through 2024.
On Thursday (August 7), Brandon’s family shared that he passed away following a private battle with cancer. The statement read:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
A Source Claims Kelly “Remained Protective” Of Brandon’s Privacy After His Diagnosis
Following Brandon’s death, an unnamed source told PEOPLE how Kelly felt after learning about his cancer diagnosis. The source claimed:
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake. Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
Kelly stepped away from her career multiple times in recent months to be present for her children.
In March, Kelly unexpectedly missed several episodes of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. She missed a total of 10 tapings.
Once she returned, she never explained the reason for her absence. However, Kelly made it clear she stepped away to help support her and Brandon’s children through a tough time.
When speaking to the stars of The Minecraft Movie, who were guests on her show, she said:
“It was kind of a dark week for me and my family, and I got to preview the movie with them. It was such an exciting thing. So I just wanted to say thank you. It brought my kids out of, like, a sad time to like, just a normal kind of time.“
After that, a report surfaced that Kelly temporarily stepped away to be with her children because Brandon was not doing well.
Then, on August 6, one day before news broke that Brandon died, Kelly announced the postponement of multiple shows in her Studio Sessions residency in Las Vegas. At that time, she revealed that Brandon was “ill,” and she needed to be with their children.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she said. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kelly, her children, and all of Brandon’s loved ones.
