Kenny Chesney Opens Up About His Stance On Celebrities Sharing Politics

Kenny Chesney has mostly kept his political views private, choosing not to use his platform to push a particular stance on his fans.

During a recent appearance on Club Random with Bill Maher, Chesney and Maher discussed the intersection of politics and entertainment, questioning whether the two should mix.

The conversation turned to Bruce Springsteen after Chesney asked Maher if he considered himself a fan of the singer. Maher said his opinion was complicated, explaining that he respects Springsteen’s music but feels the singer often ties his performances and message to political issues.

Kenny Chesney Says He Feels Politics Is Not “His Place”

That led Chesney to open up about his own approach to politics and why he chooses not to spread those types of messages to his fans.

“I just refuse to do it. I was very thankful when I came on your show in November that you knew I didn’t want to talk about that,” Chesney said. “I’ve just never felt like it was my place.”

Chesney says at the end of the day, his job is to entertain, not to tell fans what beliefs they should have or how they should vote.

“I’ve never saw it to be my place, and use my stage or platform, no matter where I’m playing, to tell people how to think or how to vote. They hear that and get that everywhere else. On every device, on every network. They are there as an escape from all of that stuff.”

While Chesney will not be dabbing into politics anytime soon, he continues to build on his long-running career as one of country music’s biggest stars. The “Get Along” singer is currently back performing at the Sphere in Las Vegas, after holding a residency at the venue in 2025.

“You can’t truly understand until you start playing music with all the people there, feeling that energy and the way the visuals and the songs just consume people. The more I watched the fans having this experience I’m sure they couldn’t imagine, the more ideas I had – both to reconfigure some of last year’s songs, and a few songs that seemed like they should get this immersive treatment – and wanted to do,” Chesney said of the shows.
