Christine Baumgartner Files For Divorce From Yellowstone Star Kevin Costner

News broke on Tuesday (May 2) that Kevin Costner‘s wife, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce the day prior (May 1). According to TMZ, Christine cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason why she filed.

Kevin and Christine met in 1996 while he was filming Tin Cup. They reunited in 1998 and began a romantic relationship.

The couple married in September 2004. They share three children: Cayden (age 15), Hayes (age 14), and Grace (age 12). Kevin also has four older children from previous relationships.

Everything’s Happening In The Midst Of Rumored Yellowstone Drama

This news comes as Yellowstone fans await the release of new episodes. The show took a midseason break in January. It promised to return with new episodes this summer.

But shortly after, rumors surfaced that Kevin wanted to limit his days on set. However, Kevin’s attorney denied these reports. He said they were “ridiculous,” adding:

“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season five of Yellowstone is an absolute lie.”

Since then, reports surfaced claiming show creator Taylor Sheridan is planning to kill off John Dutton when Yellowstone returns.

Kevin Costner Releases Statement Through Rep About His Divorce

In the midst of this tumultuous time, Kevin issued a statement through his representative about his divorce. The representative shared that statement with PEOPLE. It reads:

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
