Before filming of a movie starts, the entire cast sits down with the director and producers for a table read. The cast reads the script from beginning to end in a very casual setting. Sure, some acting is going on, but nothing close to what you see on screen.

This happens for every movie, including 2018’s A Star Is Born, which not only went on to be known for its incredible acting, but also its amazing soundtrack. One of the songs on the soundtrack – and performed in the movie – is “Shallow.”

Since its release, “Shallow” has become quite the phenomenon, with four Grammy nominations (and two wins), plus winning a Hollywood Music in Media Award, Satellite Award, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award – not to mention that unforgettable performance at the Oscars, which earned Lady Gaga and Bradley Coops two standing ovations.

Because this song is in two different parts of the movie, Lady Gaga sang it during the table read and luckily for us, someone took video of it. While it was posted to YouTube in early 2019, we are just seeing it now and are speechless.

The video begins with a wide shot of a long table of people with scripts in front of them. If you look closely, you can see Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, the stars of the movie, in the middle flanked by co-stars Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, and Anthony Ramos.

Lady Gaga, donning brunette hair like her character in the film, powerfully sang the short chorus to “Shallow” as her co-stars looked on in awe. When she finished the last note, she looked at Cooper, who also directed the movie, as though she were saying, “Okay, what’s next?”

Cooper smiled while the rest of the room erupted in a well-deserved round of applause. Watch it all go down in the video below.
