Lee Greenwood Delivers Powerful “God Bless The U.S.A.” Performance At Charlie Kirk Memorial Service
on Sep 21, 2025

Country legend Lee Greenwood brought his patriotic hit to Charlie Kirk’s celebration of life.
The life and legacy of conservative activist Charlie Kirk were celebrated during a public memorial service on Sunday (September 21). The event, which was held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, was attended by an estimated 100,000 people.
The event featured speakers from Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika, President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and numerous other conservative leaders. Some of Christian music’s most notable worship leaders, including Chris Tomlin and Brandon Lake, led a song service.

Legendary country artist Lee Greenwood was also in attendance to perform his iconic song, “God Bless The U.S.A.” The patriotic tune has been performed at numerous events since its release in 1984, including presidential inaugurations, campaign stops, and sporting events. But Greenwood’s performance at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service was one to remember.
Charlie Kirk was killed on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at a tour stop at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Though the motive hasn’t officially been determined, the suspect, Tyler Robinson, revealed in text messages that he’d “had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred.”

Kirk’s death drew ire from both conservatives and liberals who condemned the act of violence. In the days since the shooting, conservatives have rallied in support of the “faith, courage, and conviction” Kirk represented.
During his memorial service, a stadium of roughly 65,000 people, plus thousands more who were gathered outside and in overflow spaces, lifted their voices to sing “God Bless The U.S.A.” with Lee Greenwood. He sang the familiar song as President Donald Trump took the stage to conclude the service with a speech.
The powerful lyrics felt different in light of the tragedy of Charlie Kirk’s death. But it is evident from the crowd’s reaction that the anthem was a representation of how they all felt in that moment.
“And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA”
