Donald Trump Receives Passionate Tributes From Lee Greenwood

Lee Greenwood played a huge role at the 2024 RNC. The singer introduced Donald Trump during the convention’s first night.

The event came just days after an assassination attempt against Trump. The former president spoke at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday (July 13) when he suddenly reached for his right ear.

Trump ducked behind the podium as the Secret Service rushed to shield him. He rose after a few moments, raised his fist in the air, and chanted, “Fight, fight, fight,” as blood streamed down his face.

The now-deceased shooter was later identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Former firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed in the shooting, while two other men, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, were injured. An official fundraiser for the victims and their families has raised millions in less than a week.

Well aware of Trump’s close brush with death, Greenwood delivered a passionate speech ahead of his entrance at the RNC on Monday (July 15).

“Prayer works! This nation [is] based on faith, prayer works. Because He was sure as Donald Trump turned his head just slightly, that the bullet missed him just enough to save his life to be the next President of the United States. We have believed for so long that God will make some changes in this country. And he’s about to make a change in the current administration and send them home.”

From there, Greenwood started to sing his iconic patriotic anthem, “God Bless the U.S.A.” The song celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Trump entered the RNC, appearing emotional as Greenwood sang and the crowd cheered. After performing the song’s first verse, Greenwood said:

We are here tonight for one purpose. To elect Donald J. Trump as president of the United States. He is here tonight to show his courage, his defiance against somebody who tried to kill him. You will not take this man down. He has the courage, the strength, and he will be the next president of the United States.”

A few days later (on July 18), Lee Greenwood returned to the RNC to sing “God Bless the U.S.A.” again. This time, he performed as Trump took to the stage to accept the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election.

It was also Trump’s first time speaking to the public since the assassination attempt five days prior.

Greenwood delivered a powerful version of “God Bless the U.S.A.” before Trump appeared onstage mid-song. He smiled and looked around at the crowd, thanking them multiple times as Greenwood continued singing.

Once the song concluded, Trump looked in Greenwood’s direction and thanked him for the performance. Watch it all unfold around the 5:28:45 mark in the video below.
