Ratings are in for Netflix’s new Little House on the Prairie adaptation.

Netflix first announced it was rebooting the classic 1970s series back in January 2025. Then, on July 9, 2026, fans who had been looking forward to seeing the Ingalls family return finally got their wish.

The entire first season, which includes eight episodes, was released all at once. The debut season is based on the third Little House book by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

In this story, the Ingalls family moves to the Kansas frontier to start a new life, but they come to realize very quickly that their search for a new beginning won’t come without hardships.

Those who tuned in also got their first full look at the new cast. Portraying the iconic characters this time around are Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.

**(SPOILER)**

If you’ve already watched the new episodes, then you know the Ingalls family’s third daughter, Carrie, hadn’t been born yet at the start of the series.

However, she makes a surprise arrival in Episode 6. For right now, Netflix has not shared which child actor will play Carrie as her story continues.

Little House On The Prairie Ratings Revealed

There was a lot of excitement leading up to the Little House reboot, but how many people actually tuned in?

According to Variety, the series debuted as Netflix’s third most-watched TV show during the week of July 6 through July 12. The series racked up 6.4 million views in just four days.

The only shows that ranked higher were the docuseries Worst Neighbor Ever, which brought in 8.1 million views, and I Will Find You, which held onto the No. 1 spot for the fourth straight week with 11.5 million views.

That’s a pretty strong debut for any new series. But how is the reboot being received by critics and viewers?

As it currently stands, the Little House reboot holds an 80% critics score and a 69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now that viewers have had plenty of time to watch the episodes, there have been a lot of opinions about the new series. Here are just a few comments from the audience members who shared their thoughts:

“Love it. It like an old blanket. I’ve loved curling up with it. It’s nostalgic but fresh. Characters are more complex and developed.”

“Best damn show I’ve started watching in a long time!!!! And I’m a tough critic. I rewatch old shows over and over, I’m not easily amused. The first episode got me hooked.”

“Gorgeous, captivating, and not nearly as much heart break as I assumed given the time period. Appreciated it’s made for younger audiences.”

Even though some viewers thought the reboot did the original justice, others did not.

“Horrible reboot of a great story. Pure slop.”

“I grew up watching the original Little House on the Prairie; it was one of my favorite shows as a kid. This Netflix reboot doesn’t have the charm of the original or the emotional impact.”

“Nowhere as good as the original one. This one has no soul or character. It’s dull and bland.”

It definitely seems like opinions of the reboot are split, so you’ll have to tune in and decide for yourself. And if you’ve already finished the first season and wish there were more episodes, there’s good news.

Netflix has officially renewed Little House on the Prairie for a second season. However, there’s currently no confirmed release date.
