Netflix has given fans their first full look at what to expect from its highly anticipated reboot of Little House on the Prairie.

It’s been more than 30 years since fans last watched Little House on the Prairie come to life on television. Now, the wait is almost over, with the Ingalls family set to return to screens very soon.

The reboot premieres on Netflix on July 9, and there’s already plenty of excitement surrounding the series before its debut. In fact, the streaming platform is so confident in the show’s success that it has already renewed it for a second season before the first season has even aired.

Viewers will see Alice Halsey play Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.

The first season will be based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s third Little House book. In the series, the Ingalls family is looking for a fresh start as they set out to build a new life in the small town of Independence, Kansas.

“The new Little House on the Prairie is part family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West,” the show’s logline states, adding that the series will “offer a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

The trailer opens with the Ingalls family arriving in town, ready to settle in and start their new life.

“This will be our new forever,” Laura tells Pa with hope in her voice.

But it doesn’t take long for them to realize their new home comes with some real challenges.

It’s much more rural than they’re used to, and one townswoman even tells Ma that there’s “no post office, no church, no school.”

Still, they try to stay hopeful and focus on the possibilities ahead, seeing real potential in a town that’s still growing.

But as the story unfolds, more problems begin to appear, including tension between the settlers and the Osage Native American tribes, deadly fevers, wolves, and a massive fire that engulfs the prairie.

“What if I was wrong?” Pa asks, reflecting on his decision to move. “What if it isn’t better here?”

“And what if… this is where we finally become who we were meant to be?” Ma replies. “How will we ever know till we try?”
