In the early 1990s, dancer Michael Flatley rose to fame thanks to a EuroVision intermission performance. He performed a 7-minute routine titled “Riverdance.”

It became so popular, he helped turned into an entire full-length show, which many people now know and love. After he left Riverdance, he started his very own show titled Lord Of The Dance, and he created it to be performed in arenas and stadiums rather than theaters. Lord Of The Dance was a huge success and launched Flatley into international fame – and fortune.

He began expanding with shows Feet of Flames and Celtic Tiger, as well as making TV appearances on shows like Dancing With The Stars. He continued to dance in his productions until his retirement in 2016.

Flatley is also a writer, director, actor, musician, and painter – a true Renaissance man!

His shows continue to run worldwide, and he stops by every now and then. In November 2022, he was present at the Paris production of Lord Of The Dance.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday (Jan. 11), Flatley’s team announced some sad news – the legendary dancer had been diagnosed with cancer.

Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors. No further comments will be made at this time. We ask only for your prayers and well wishes. Thank you,” the statement wrote.

We will keep Flatley in our prayers at this time and hope he makes a full recovery.
