People around the world have come together to pray for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
24-year-old Hamlin collapsed on the field after tackling Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins during a game on January 2. Hamlin received CPR on the field and was transported out of the stadium via ambulance.
The Bills shared that Hamlin “suffered a cardiac arrest” during the game. According to the Bills, “his heartbeat was restored on the field” before he was transferred to the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati.
The Bills-Bengals game was postponed and eventually canceled.
Hamlin remained in critical condition at the UC Medical Center. The Bills continued to share updates on his progress, with each one being more encouraging than the last.
As of this writing, Hamlin is awake and is able to communicate. Per the Bills, he was able to FaceTime into a team meeting on January 6 and said, “Love you boys.”
The Bills returned to the field on Sunday (January 8) for a game against the New England Patriots. Hamlin shared a photo from his hospital bed to cheer on his teammates.
Hamlin was also moved by a video of the Bills entering the field while carrying flags with his jersey number (the number 3) and the message “pray for Damar.” He commented, “This mean the world to me fr!”

Hamlin’s fundraiser for his charitable foundation Chasing M’s has received an overwhelming amount of donations in the past week. Chasing M’s is a foundation Hamlin created “to use as a vehicle to bring lasting impact to his community. The foundation supports toy drives, back-to-school drives, kids camps, and more.”
Hamlin originally set up a GoFundMe page for Chasing M’s to support a toy drive. Before he collapsed during the Bengals game, the fundraiser had $2,900 in donations. As of this writing, the fundraiser has now raised over $8.5 million!
Some of the fundraiser’s largest donors include Tom Brady, Jim Irsay and the Indianapolis Colts, Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Matthew Stafford, Russell and Ciara Wilson, and Robert Gronkowski. Another one of the fundraiser’s largest donors is country artist Luke Bryan.
According to the list of donors, Bryan donated $5000 to the fundraiser. Hats off to him for his contribution!
The money raised through Hamlin’s fundraiser will be able to make a huge impact in his community. Head below to watch a video showcasing his toy drive for Christmas in 2022.
