Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant is asking fans to keep his daughter in their prayers.

The legendary Southern rock group announced on Tuesday (September 24) that they were canceling their concert in Anchorage, Alaska, that evening. The band cited a “medical emergency” as the reason for the sudden cancellation.

The group explained the reason behind the cancellation in more detail. Their lead singer, Johnny Van Zant, had learned earlier that morning that his daughter needed emergency surgery.

Frontman Johnny Van Zant’s Daughter Underwent Emergency Surgery

Johnny Van Zant is the younger brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s original frontman, Ronnie Van Zant. After Ronnie’s death in a plane crash in 1977, Johnny stepped up to serve as the group’s lead vocalist—and has been since 1987.

Johnny is a father of four daughters: Lindsay, Kristen, Harmony, and Taylor. Sadly, Lindsay died in January 2018 after bravely fighting a rare form of cancer for over a year.

Lindsay Van Zant would have celebrated her 42nd birthday on September 12, 2024.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s fans rallied around Johnny after Lindsay’s death, sending him their love, support, and prayers. Now, Johnny is asking fans to pray for another one of his daughters following her recent emergency surgery.

In their statement about their canceled Anchorage show, Skynyrd stated that Johnny “has asked all fans to pray for [his daughter’s] successful procedure and recovery.” Skynyrd’s statement did not reveal which one of Johnny’s daughters underwent the operation or the reason for the surgery.

The group said they will share updates about their upcoming appearances in the next few days. In the meantime, our hearts and prayers go out to Johnny Van Zant, his daughter, and the entire Skynyrd family at this time.
