Maddie & Tae Address Fans In New Message After Split Announcement
on Dec 12, 2025

Why Are Maddie & Tae Breaking Up?
On Monday (December 8), Maddie & Tae announced that they’ve decided to split up, for now. The news came as a shock to fans who’ve followed their journey since they started singing together 15 years ago.
Maddie Marlow Font and Taylor “Tae” Dye Kerr wanted to assure fans that there’s no bad blood between them. They remain best friends and are open to singing together in the future.
That’s why they don’t want to label this split as a “breakup.” Instead, they’re going on an indefinite hiatus.
“You’ve seen other duos that break up, and they hate each other and blah-blah-blah,” Maddie told PEOPLE. “I know the world’s probably ready for us to hate each other, especially because we’re women. That just happens for some reason. And that’s why we want to do it this way, to show what it looks like to be two strong, independent, loving women that…”
“… are embarking on separate journeys,” Tae finished for her. “But still together.“

As for their “separate journeys,” Maddie intends to pursue a solo career. Tae is stepping out of the spotlight to be a stay-at-home mom to her two young children.
“We both were very aware of T’s heart just not being in touring as much,” Maddie told PEOPLE.
“Maddie was just like, ‘Tell me where your heart is,'” Tae recalled. “And I was like, ‘My heart is at home.’ And she said, “‘Okay. Then that’s what we need to do.'”
Maddie & Tae Thank Fans For Love And Support After Announcing Their Split
Shortly after announcing their split on December 8, Maddie & Tae shared a post on social media. They addressed this “bittersweet new chapter” in their lives and expressed their gratitude to their fans.
“Thank you for making our wildest dreams come true and we hope you stay close by to watch us chase some new dreams,” they said.
Maddie & Tae addressed their fans in a new message on December 10, two days after they announced their split. The duo shared their message alongside a video of them singing their 2023 single “Heart They Didn’t Break.” The track was included on their most recent album, 2025’s Love & Light.
In their message, Maddie & Tae thanked their fans for all the support they’ve received since announcing their split.
“Thank y’all for all the sweet comments and all the love. We are so excited to make our last couple of shows as magical as possible with yall,” they said. “[It] truly means the world how much love yall have showered us in this week and all the encouragement as we start a brand new chapter. We will go through this heartbreak together like we always do hunnies.”
Maddie & Tae still have a few shows left on the books before they’ll go their separate ways. They just performed at the Grand Ole Opry on December 11 as part of the “Opry Country Christmas” celebration.
While there, the duo played a game of “Holiday This or That” backstage, during which they shared some of their favorite things about the holiday season.
